To understand how to better water a Catasetum orchid, you'll need to understand how it grows in nature. Catasetums are NOT found in tropical and subtropical rainforest, like most of the store-bought Phalaenopsis orchids we see in the supermarkets. They are cultivated in hot, humid, lowland areas of plains and valleys all across the south of North America, Latin America, and the Northern/Central part of South America (from Mexico to South of Argentina), southern part of Africa, and Asia. These areas all have in common hot, humid environments with plenty of rain during the summer, and a period of no rain, where the winters are dry and a tad bit cooler. Some of my videos don't have a corresponding article and this is one of them. The closest you'll find to this video content in writing is this article: https://orchideria.com/watering-catasetum-orchids/ and with that, you'll have a global understanding of what happens and why I repotted like I did. On Orchideria.com, you can find more in-depth guides and all the access to our information, tutorials, guides, and much more... all for free! Image Credit: In all my videos, I do the editing, filming, script and images myself, but since I only had 2 Catasetum Orchids in bloom at the time of this video, I added 7 other pictures which I want to give full credit to: (1) "File:A and B Larsen orchids - Catasetum tenebrosum 1006-19.jpg" by Arne and Bent Larsen, Haarby, Denmark is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.5; (2) "File:A and B Larsen orchids - Catasetum saccatum 515-22.jpg" by Arne and Bent Larsen, Haarby, Denmark is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.5; (3) "File:A and B Larsen orchids - Catasetum tenebrosum female Dscn3259.jpg" by Arne and Bent Larsen, Haarby, Denmark is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.5; "Catasetum napoense (Orchidaceae) – male raceme" by Dr. Alexey Yakovlev is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0; (4)"Catasetum napoense (Orchidaceae) – male raceme" by Dr. Alexey Yakovlev is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0; (5) "Extraordinary Orchid - Catasetum Millie's Frilly Dragon" by Geoff J Mckay is licensed under CC BY 2.0; (6) "Catasetum Orchidglade 'Davie Ranches'AM/AOS_02" by scott361 is licensed under CC BY-ND 2.0 and (7)"Catasetum napoense (Orchidaceae) — male flower" by Dr. Alexey Yakovlev is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0.
